Course Information

STAR (Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource)

STAR is flexible funding from the Ministry of Education for targeted courses.

Courses are generally targeted at Year 11-13 students. You may complete some STAR-funded courses and gain credits, while other STAR-funded courses are for experience only.

The courses are aimed to

  • Motivate you to achieve

  • Help facilitate the transition from school to further education, training or employment

  • Designed to support students to explore career pathways

  • Help you make informed decisions about your schooling and future work or study

A STAR-funded course offers you an opportunity to participate in vocational programmes which is not provided as part of our school’s core curriculum.

These courses will be advertised in the school notices, on the Career Notice Board in the quad, and in the library.

  • EIT Waka Ama

  • EIT Music course

  • Student Day on Farm

  • Bar Services course

  • National Youth Drama School

  • First year university papers

  • Industry-related packages through Gateway (BCITO, MITO, HITO, Primary ITO, Earn Learn)
