STAR Report 2016 . . .
This year 34 students benefitted from STAR funding by attending a course in the holidays. These courses are all popular with students and deliver training in courses not currently available to these students at school.
The Bartending Course is worth 8 Credits at Level 3 and 4, Security Course: 12 Credits at Level 2 and 3 and the Barista Course 8 Credits at Level 3. These courses give students skills they can use when looking for part time or full time employment and give students Industry Credits that count towards NCEA. Two students also attended the National Youth Drama School, one doing a songwriting course and another doing acting and performance, while this is not worth credits, it is offering these gifted students an extension of what they can get at school, provides personal growth and introduces them to vital networks in their chosen field. These courses are funded through STAR and are chosen as a result of student's interest and feedback.
