St. John's Old Boys' Report . . .
The Old Boys' Association met earlier in the year to discuss a significant event in the history of the College, the 75th Jubilee. A Jubilee of this significance was to be a great milestone for the College. Being elected President of the Old Boys' Association, past student and former staff member, I was delighted to be invited on to the organising committee for this great occasion.
The Jubilee saw a gathering of of past and present staff as well as past and present students for the celebrations. The opening of the new Dowling Block in time for the Jubilee showed to the past students that the College is not only alive and well, but the facilities are modern and at the cutting edge of education.
It was wonderful to see and be in the presence of 'first day' pupils and to see that the Marist values that were instilled in theese men were still being taught and passed on to the present day students.
The whole weekend, from the informal get-together on Friday night, the sport played during the day on Saturday, the dinner with our guest speaker, Matt Cooper and our MC, Eric Young, (classmate of mine) and the mass on Sunday, celebrated by Bishop Charles Drennan and con - celebrated by 11 past pupils who are now preists, was a wonderful celebration of not only of the spirit of the Collegebut of the values as well.
The college is in good heart and the celebrations for the 100th Jubilee will be just as wonderful as was this years 75th.
