SENIOR SOCIAL STUDIES
Senior students can carry on with Social Sciences in Geography and History.
Geography "The bridge between nature and culture"
Year 11: Topics include access to resources, geographic research into urban research, natural disasters, and application of geographic skills.
Year 12: Topics this year for internals include the global pattern and processes of HIV/AIDS, and ‘geographic research of urban morphology. External examinations will cover the ‘South Island High Country, disparities between more and less economically developed countries, and geographic skills.
Year 13: Topics learnt for internal assessments include the global pattern and processes in diamond trading and the patterns of human trafficking and its effects on the cultural environment, as well as geographic research on the effects of altitude on aspects of vegetation, soil and degree of erosion. External examinations will look at tourism in Fiji and Rotorua, and volcanology and human interaction in volcanic environments.
