St. John's College Charitable Trust . . .

The St. John's College Hastings Charitable Trust was set up in 2005 by Old Boys and Friends of the College. The Trust is registered with the Charities Commission and has been approved as a Charity by the Inland Revenue Department.
The purposes of the Trust are as follows:
  • To further the education of students at St. John's College and without restricting the scope of the foregoing, to provide financial assistance, clothing, books, equipment, facilities, counselling and other appropriate assistance to such students.
  • To maintain and develop amenities to promote educational opportunities for students at St. John's College.
  • To support the special Catholic character of St. John's College and promote the values of the Society of Mary.
St. John's College land and buildings are owned by the Bishop of Palmerston North on behalf of the Catholic people of Hawke's Bay. The Government is responsible for the maintenance of all integrated buildings. The Bishop of Palmerston North is responsible for major renovations and funding the cost of all new buildings (Capital Works). If St. John's College required capital works which the bishop is not able to fund at the time then the College Charitable Trust is used by the school community to raise the required funds for the Bishop to proceed with any approved project. Note: Trust Donations are tax deductible.
Since the Trust was formed in 2005 it has raised $99,800 from donations and special fundraising activities. The largest donation was $25,000 from the Society of Mary Education Trust for Chapel Restoration Work. Other donations have come from Old Boys and friends of the College. Special fundraising events included the Inaugural Dinner and Charity Auction which was held in 2006 to launch the Trust plus two Student art Auctions and the annual Mission Concert cleanup.
In the past few years rugby at St. John's College has been struggling due in part to high schools from Auckland and Christchurch as well as local high schools actively recruiting local rugby talent. To address this situation, a group of local Old Boys recently established the St. John's College Rugby Foundation which was launched at the College's 75th Jubilee celebrations on the 1st of July 2016.
The aim of the Foundation is to help the College build and retain local Catholic rugby talent. In its first three months the Foundation has already raised $7,000 to support rugby in the College. The St. John's College Hastings Charitable Trust has incorporated the Rugby Foundation into its charitable agenda.
The Trust is always seeking donations to fund its activities. These can be mailed to the Trust c/- St. John's College, P O Box 14008, Mayfair, Hastings 4159 or banked directly to the Trust's ASB Bank Account: 123145 0140403 00.
Bequest - A bequest is a gift made through your will. Please consider St. John's College Hastings Charitable Trust as a worthy recipient of a bequest when making your will.
