Catholic Character . . .
Every week during the College school year the Catholic Character Committee meets at interval to plan the many Liturgical and Faith experiences of the Calendar year. Our focus for many events this year has been the Year of Mercy.
Our goal is to provide our students with the knowledge of encounter with and witness to Christ. We endeavour to have viable student planning and participation in everything connected with our Catholic faith at the College.
In 2016 we organised several events. We prepared and organised all four major masses: Commissioning Mass in Term one, St. John's Feast Day Mass in Term 2, The Feast of the Assumption in Term three and the Leavers Mass in Term four.
As a College we celebrated significant events during the year with liturgies and prayer. We started with an Ash Wednesday liturgy to begin Lent and during Holy week we had a "Walk of the Cross" reflection around around our Catholic Schools and Parishes. Many of our Senior Students represented the College with laying wreaths and attending ANZAC Services in the Hawke's Bay. On Catholic Schools Day we organised a celebration of all that is good in our Marist and Catholic College and had a special emphasis and devotion to Mary.
Our participation with our connecting Parishes remains strong with Leaders' Masses and Combined St. John's and Sacred Heart Masses in every parish during the year.
Weekly Chapel Masses and Benediction each fortnight are well attended and the Catholic Character students are rostered on all the ministries' both at the College and in their Parishes.
Social Justice awareness and outreach is always a focus and there have been many activities planned during the year to support the vulnerable and needy in our community and world.
I would like to thank the group of students who form the Catholic Character group. Your effort and commitment to our College's Special Character has certainly been a visible witness to Christ.
Mrs J. Beatson.
