   Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the St John's College website. St John's College is an integrated Catholic secondary school for boys serving the Hawke's Bay community. The College was founded by the Marist Fathers in 1941. It is situated in Jervois Street, Hastings. We have very good facilities and extensive grounds. Buses bring students from Napier, Taradale, Flaxmere and the surrounding rural hinterland. The College has a roll of about 450 students, with 35 fulltime teaching staff. We employ a youth minister, Mrs Margaret von Hartitzsch.

St John's College offers its students a first rate education within a very supportive Christian community. We have a clear philosophy that is based on our Catholic Special Character and our Marist traditions. This philosophy is to help all students develop the talents that God has given them and to assist them to become responsible citizens and committed Christians. We provide stimulating academic programs with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy, a huge range of sporting and cultural opportunities, and great school spirit. Leadership opportunities are provided through our prefects and vertical form system. There is healthy inter-house competition. We have high expectations for our students, who enjoy their schooling. We have an excellent Board of Trustees, an energetic Senior Management Team and a talented staff who are expert at dealing with young men.
