SPORTING HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2011

 

  • Our St John’s Junior athletes won the Year 9 and 10 

          Hawke’s Bay Secondary Schools Relay Championships.

 

  • Athletes performed very well at the East Coast North Island Track and Field Championships. Scott Brocklehurst won the Intermediate 800 metre event and was selected to compete in the North Island Secondary schools Championships.

 

  • Cross Country

            Two St John’s teams competed in the annual 
            Havelock North High School Cross Country Relays.

            Our A Team finished in 3rd place in the Senior Boys A section 
            while our B Team of won the Senior Boys ‘B’ section.

 

  • Canoe Polo Teams both of whom finished in 3rd place in the Nationals held in Feilding

 

  • Senior A Basketballers have been placed in the top 10 in New Zealand in 2010 and 2011. They were Central Zone Region finalists in 2010 and 2011. Winning this tournament in 2011 meant that our team qualified for the Nationals and were seeded 2nd in New Zealand.   

           

  • St John’s College Golf Team who competed and were placed 4th in the Hawke’s Bay Secondary Schools Golf Championships.  Our best golfer on the day was Tyson Tawera who hit a 76, the second lowest gross score.

           

  • 1st XI Football team who retained the Father Bernie Ryan trophy by defeating a St John’s Old Boys team in a pre-season game.

 

  • 1st XV Rugby team defeated Dannevirke High School 27 – 7 to win the Tanya Francis Trophy and our U15 Rugby team defeated Dannevirke by over 100 points.

 

  • Senior A & B Squash Teams who were placed 1st and 2nd in the Hawke‘s Bay Secondary Schools championships.

  • Surf Lifesaving Beach Relay Section U14 Sam Wong, U16 Jonah Lowe, Gold Medals,  U16 Jordan Pineaha  Bronze medal

 

  • Caleb Waerea, nominated for the title of Mini Stock-car Driver of the Year.

 

  • Troy Skipworth who was named “Umpire of the Tournament” at the Sport Manawatu Year 7 and 8 Netball Tournament. This is an outstanding achievement as umpires of all levels were at the tournament. Troy also won the Wattie’s Student Volunteer Award for Hawke’s Bay in 2010-11.

  • Jacob Mildon and JT Edwards who competed in the Australasia Karate Championships.

          Jacob won the U 18 Full Contact title while JT came 4th.

 

  • Sam Lewis won the U14 Hawke’s Bay Extreme Sport Scooter Competition

  • Rowers Callum Lack and Michael Vanderpeet who competed in the Maadi CupNew Zealand Secondary Schools Rowing Championships. Callum and Michael  had a great week gaining a bronze medal in the U 18 Novice  Doubles and a 4th place in the B Final of the U 17 Doubles.

  • Jordan Le Comte  B1  Hawke’s Bay Senior runner up Champion          Tremaine Rangi  Hawke’s Bay Junior  Champion, 

          Mark Corkery  Hawke’s Bay Junior runner up Champion

     SWIMMING

  • Jonathan Burfield-Mills who broke two Hawke’s Bay Poverty Bay Records at the Bay of Plenty Swimming Championships. He broke these records in the 50m  backstroke (this record was held by Olympian Daniel Bell) and the 400m  Individual Medley.

     TOUCH RUGBY
