Physics

“Physics” comes from the Latin word physica meaning natural science, a concise definition of the subject could be, “Physics is the study of things such as moving objects, gravity, electricity and light”.
The subject can be combined with many other subjects and you should be aware that for many careers such as architecture, computer science, dentistry, medicine, engineering and veterinary science that Physics is either required or strongly advised.
All St John's students study aspects of Physics in the junior school (Yr9 & Yr10) as part of junior Science. From Year 11 onwards students can take Physics as an option, In year 11 Physics can be studied as a subject on its own or as part of NCEA Level 1 Science.
