Religious Education Year 9
What will I study
The theme of the course at this level is Beginnings, and provides students with the opportunity to examine the many personal beginnings of their own lives, to recognise the many beginnings of the Church’s life, as well as study the part God plays in all beginnings.
The course consists of eight units of study :
. The History of Saint John and the traditions of the College
. The Life and Times of Jesus
. The Eucharist and the Church’s Year
. The Church’s Story – the Beginning
. The Beginnings of the Church in New Zealand
. Creation and Co – creation
. Recognising Signs of God
. Sacraments of Initiation

. Self – management
. Work and study skills
Assessment in this subject :
There are two, one hour exams during the year. There are projects set in class on various topics and the students book work is marked during the year. A new student workbook will be introduced next year.
Where does this subject lead ?
This subject leads on to further study of Religious education at higher levels, including the Nationally recognised Qualifications from Year 11 onwards. It is studied throughout the College, and forms an integral part of our preparation for life beyond school.
